Rafik Sabdia

Solicitor

Rafik Sabdia is formerly from South Africa, having settled in Brisbane in 1981.  In 2018 he was recognized by the Queensland Law Society for his 25 years of membership.  Rafik has  specialist experience in Commercial law, Property, and Migration law . He has worked with National and mid-tier law Firms in the Brisbane CBD, and started his own practice in 2001 specializing in Commercial law, Property, Migration, Wills and Estates, Corporations law, and Trust law. He has also served as the Secretary for the Migration Institute of Australia (Queensland Sub-Branch).

Rafik has given presentations about Property Law, Commercial law and Migration in several countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Italy, Morocco, Spain and Dubai.  Over the last 10 years, one of the most satisfying experiences has been to assist clients to get involved in the Property Development field. Rafik has put together many property ventures for and on behalf of his Clients.  This process has emanated from site identification through to feasibilities, project management team formulation, investor identification and project completion.  Some individual projects exceeded $600 million in Gross Realisation and helped Rafik’s migrant clients succeed in property development with no prior knowledge or experience in the field.

Rafik is now assisting families from China and India that have historically been passive commercial and investment property owners or the operators of trading businesses, to venture into the property development field.  Rafik’s involvement over the years with Migrant families makes him well placed to understand the dynastic challenges facing families that have younger members looking to take their family portfolios to greater heights.  The key to this process is a thorough understanding of the Client’s portfolio, aims and objectives and to start first with the correct exit strategy.  Rafik’s speciality in these arrangements has given him the right tools to deal with joint ventures and syndicates as well.

Property Development Portfolio

  • Rafik was a Director of a Company which developed a 448 Lot residential development within the Brisbane City Council area.  The total land area is 80 hectares.
  • He was also a Director of project companies which are developing Loganlink within the Brisbane City Council.  The project is a 50 hectare Mixed Industry and Business development with completed value of AUD$500 million; and
  • Rafik has acted as solicitor for Huntington Downs at the Gold Coast, Queensland.  This project is a 174 hectare green field residential development with a Gross Realisation Value of AUD$230 million.
